What Type of Leader Does Society Need?

Society needs leaders who lead with integrity, empathy, and purpose. In a world that is constantly changing, effective leaders are those who are respectful, responsible, and committed to serving others. They are individuals who listen before they speak, act with honesty, and make decisions that benefit the greater good. True leaders inspire positive change, stand up for what is right, and model the values they wish to see in others. At school level, these qualities lay the foundation for responsible citizenship and lifelong leadership.

So what skills does a good, effective leader possess? While the businesses of the world may disagree slightly about the definition of a leader, they tend to more or less agree that a good leader is:

  • Leadership & Responsibility
  • Respect & Integrity
  • Positive Role Model
  • Commitment to Learning
  • Communication Skills
  • Teamwork & Cooperation

10 Learner Leader Qualities

What kinds of leaders does our society need? Arguably, people who are effective — those who have a goal in mind and are able to reach it by inspiring and persuading others to join them.

But is that enough? After all, there are countless examples throughout history of effective leaders who were not of the admirable variety (Hitler comes to mind). So being an effective leader is clearly not enough. Besides being effective, a leader must also be morally good and possess a variety of other venerable traits.

So what skills does a good, effective leader possess? While the businesses of the world may disagree slightly about the definition of a leader, they tend to more or less agree that a good leader is:

  • Goal oriented
  • Honest
  • Hard-working
  • Willing to serve others
  • A good listener
  • A good communicator
  • A good decision-maker
  • Encouraging
  • Positive
  • Responsible
These are the traits that we help our Learner Leaders nurture at ZWHS.
